An elevated presence of leukocytes or white blood cells (WBCs) is a common cause of temporary male sterility.
The percentage of WBCs present in the semen can be measured by means of a sperm analysis (SA). If the concentration of leukocytes is above 1 million per milliliter, the patient will be diagnosed with leukocytospermia, also known as leukospermia or pyospermia.
