COS protocol in artificial insemination

COS protocol in artificial insemination

The controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) phase in an artificial insemination (AI) process is a much milder stage compared to COS for in vitro fertilization (IVF). The hormonal doses administered for an AI are lower since only the development of 1-2 ovarian follicles is required.

To achieve this, the COS protocol for AI begins with the administration of injections between the second and third day of menstruation. The duration of this phase in the AI process is usually approximately 8-14 days, during which time the patient undergoes various medical check-ups.

Once the follicles reach the desired size, the specialist will indicate the administration of hCG to induce ovulation. In this way, the insemination will be scheduled 36 hours after this injection.
