Overweight and obese women often have excess oestrogen levels. This hormonal imbalance leads to an alteration of the reproductive axis, which makes pregnancy more difficult.
In the case of gestation through assisted reproduction techniques, women with obesity also have a lower pregnancy rate due to the following reasons:
Obtaining immature eggs.
Low response to ovarian stimulation.
Increased risk of cycle cancellation.
Ovarian puncture complications.
Lower fertilisation rate.
Poorer embryo quality.
