Oocyte vitrification is mainly performed for two situations. On the one hand, oocyte vitrification allows the preservation of a woman's fertility. By cryopreserving the oocytes, they maintain their quality for an indefinite period of time. In this way, the woman can postpone the moment to become a mother. In addition, fertility preservation is indicated for women who, for example, are going to undergo cancer treatment or for any other medical reason.
Another indication for egg vitrification is the optimization of IVF cycles. If the woman is a low responder, several cycles of ovarian stimulation can be performed and all the oocytes obtained can be vitrified.
