When embryos are cultured in the laboratory, several things can happen. One is that these embryos are transferred into the woman's uterus to await implantation and pregnancy.
Another option is to vitrify the embryos after transferring one of them or simply cryopreserve them for transfer at another time.
Finally, it may happen that some embryos that were in culture are discarded because their development has been blocked or because they have some chromosomal alteration after PGD.
