Irregular periods and the absence of periods and ovulation (anovulation) are prominent symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In addition, it is a metabolic disorder due to excessive production of androgens, so hirsutism, or increased body hair, is common.
Other typical symptoms of PCOS are: the appearance of acne or the presence of polycystic ovaries in women.
