Time-lapse systems, including Eeva, allow continuous monitoring of embryos by capturing serial images. In this way, much more information is obtained about the first embryonic divisions than with the traditional embryo evaluation method based on observation of the embryo only at specific moments of embryonic development.
On the other hand, time-lapse systems have the added advantage of allowing embryo evaluation without the need to remove the embryo from the incubator and place it under a microscope. This makes the embryo culture conditions more stable.
