Thrombophilia is an excess clotting of the blood and as a consequence the formation of clots. This leads to the appearance of thrombi.
Thrombophilias can be acquired or genetic depending on the origin. Acquired thrombophilias include antiphospholipid syndrome.
These blood clotting disorders may be related to repeated miscarriages and implantation failures. For this reason, thrombotic problems are the focus of attention in fertility research.
