In general, sexual intercourse during a normally progressing pregnancy is possible if both partners are comfortable with it. However, there are certain situations in which a specialist may recommend avoiding sex during pregnancy. These may include:
- Cervical insufficiency.
- Placenta praevia.
- History or risk of preterm birth.
- History or risk of miscarriage.
- Vaginal bleeding of unknown cause.
- Amniotic fluid leakage.
- Multiple pregnancy.
Therefore, it is always best to consult with the obstetrician who is managing the pregnancy, as he or she knows the particular situation of each couple.
