When a woman undergoes in vitro fertilization (IVF) to become a mother, estrogens may be administered. Its purpose is to prepare the endometrium so that it acquires the appropriate thickness for the day of the embryo transfer.
For this purpose, estradiol patches are usually used in combination with progesterone. The administration of estrogen for the preparation usually begins between the first and third day of menstruation and lasts approximately 10-12 days. During this time, the woman will undergo ultrasound check-ups to evaluate the endometrial status and schedule the best time to transfer.
