The ICSI technique can pose some risks for women, as any other assisted reproduction treatment. Among them, those are the most common risks:
- Ovarian hyperstimulation
- caused by the administration of hormonal drugs for the production of multiple follicles in the ovary.
- Multiple pregnancy
- due to the transfer of two embryos. For this reason, it is increasingly common to opt for the transfer of a single embryo.
- Miscarriage
- usually happens in the first pregnancy week.
- Ectopic pregnancy
- that is, when the embryo implants outside the uterus.
Therefore, the risks of ICSI are the same as in conventional IVF.
