One of the main reasons why ICSI might be needed is azoospermia, that is, when the man has zero sperm count.
There exist two types of azoospermia:
- Obstructive
- Sperm production occurs with normality, but the sperms cannot flow to the outside world.
- Non-obstructive
- The sperm production function is affected.
Because of this, natural pregnancy is prevented, so males diagnosed with azoospermia must resort to assisted reproductive techniques to seek gestation.
