During ovarian stimulation, it is necessary to perform periodic controls to check that the follicles are growing properly. For this purpose, transvaginal ultrasounds are performed and the diameter of the ovarian follicles is measured. In addition, blood tests are also done to measure the estradiol level.
When the ovarian follicles have reached the appropriate dimensions (about 18 mm) and the estradiol levels are in accordance with the number of follicles developed (200-300 pg/ml for each mature follicle), the follicular puncture is scheduled and oocyte retrieval is performed.
