The first step of the seminogram is the macroscopic analysis of the sample. Here, parameters are analyzed that can be evaluated by the specialist at a glance. These include the following:
- Volume or amount of semen.
- Viscosity, i.e. the presence of fibres is evaluated.
- pH, since it must be a value between 7-8.
- Color.
This macroscopic semen analysis needs to be done as soon as possible after the sample is obtained for the results to be reliable.
