The hormones that control the menstrual cycle and thus the development and maturation of the ovarian follicles are LH and FSH. These hormones are secreted by the pituitary gland in response to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).
FSH stimulates follicle growth and development. LH causes ovulation to be triggered.
